Mary Jane Coombs (owner/teacher)
Mary Jane Coombs graduated from Utah State University in Elementary Education. She taught 8 years in the public school system, but in 2009 decided to start her own school. Mary’s Little Lambs Preschool (in Layton) ran successfully for 4 years. Miss Mary and her husband, Chris, purchased The Little Red School House in October, 2012. Miss Mary is endorsed in gifted and talented education, and while in college she was trained in special education. She loves teaching! Miss Mary is excited to be a part of The Little Red School House and continue the legacy of an excellent educational preschool. Miss Mary grew up in Layton. Mary and her husband, Chris, have 4 beautiful blond hair kids. Miss Mary stays pretty busy with her family and school, but in her spare time loves to scrapbook, be crafty, read a good book, and play with friends.
Kathleen Boswell (teacher)
Kathleen Boswell grew up in American Fork. She attended BYU (Provo) and is married to Mike Boswell. They have 4 grown children and 11 grandchildren! They reside in Layton. Kathleen has served on the Davis School District Education Foundation for over 10 years. She has also served in her church as a teacher and leader for 30+ years. She will add warmth and fun to your child’s learning experience.
Karen Skeen (Assistant)
Karen Skeen is a Utah transplant, moving to Utah her Jr. year of High School. Being raised in the military saw many locations from Europe to several states in the U.S. Utah as become home, even though her mother will not let her forget she's a Texan. Karen attended Weber State, where she met her husband, and together raised 4 children who have made them the proud grandparents to 13 grandchildren - ranging in age from 19 to 4. So she has lots of fun activities to attend. Karen has lived next to the Little Red School House for 38 years and is excited to be part of the staff.
Karen Wilson (assistant)
Karen Wilson has been with the Little Red Schoolhouse since 1995. She graduated from Bonneville High School and attended Weber State College for 2 years. She taught dance for 10 years. She is married and has 4 children and 6 grandkids. She enjoys spending time with her family and doing Zumba in her spare time.
Julie Coleman (Teacher)
Julie Coleman has over four decades of hand-on experience working with children. In addition to her titles of “mom” to five grown children and “grandma” to 11 wonderful grandchildren, Julie previously worked for two years at Discovery Corner preschool, spent three years as a playground supervisor and office assistant at Mt. View Elementary, as well as substitute taught on numerous occasions. When she’s not teaching or caring for grandchildren, Julie enjoys reading, baking, crafts and would love to spend more time traveling.
Kamile Fernelius (Teacher/Aide)
Kamile grew up in South Ogden with her family. playing soccer and tumbling competitively as well as keeping up with good grades in school and playing the piano. She graduated with her Associates degree from Weber State University in spring 2017. She is currently working to help put her handsome husband Ryan through school, then hopes to return to finish a BFA and be able to sell more of her own art while raising a family some day. In her spare time, she loves to be with her husband and family, work on arts and crafts, enjoy anything adventurous outdoors, read, and country dance! She has taught kids since 2015 by coaching power tumbling and now preschool. She enjoys being with kids and appreciates that every day is a new adventure, and is always ready for the challenge of finding ways to help kids and adults.
Rachel Smith (Teacher/Aide)
Rachel is a graduate of The Little Red School House preschool. She is all grown up and now loves teaching here! In her spare time she enjoys drawing, hiking, live theatre, reading, watching science and history documentaries and going on dates with her fiance. Along with teaching, Rachel is also attending Weber State University, pursuing a bachelors degree for History Education.
