Mary Jane Coombs (owner/teacher)



Mary Jane Coombs graduated from Utah State University in Elementary Education. She taught 8 years in the public school system, but in 2009 decided to start her own school. Mary’s Little Lambs Preschool (in Layton) ran successfully for 4 years. Miss Mary and her husband, Chris, purchased The Little Red School House in October, 2012. Miss Mary is endorsed in gifted and talented education, and while in college she was trained in special education. She loves teaching! Miss Mary is excited to be a part of The Little Red School House and continue the legacy of an excellent educational preschool. Miss Mary grew up in Layton. Mary and her husband, Chris, have 4 beautiful blond hair kids. Miss Mary stays pretty busy with her family and school, but in her spare time loves to scrapbook, be crafty, read a good book, and play with friends.

Kathleen Boswell (teacher)



Kathleen Boswell grew up in American Fork. She attended BYU (Provo) and is married to Mike Boswell. They have 4 grown children and 11 grandchildren! They reside in Layton. Kathleen has served on the Davis School District Education Foundation for over 10 years. She has also served in her church as a teacher and leader for 30+ years. She will add warmth and fun to your child’s learning experience.

Karen Skeen (Assistant)



Karen Skeen is a Utah transplant, moving to Utah her Jr. year of High School. Being raised in the military saw many locations from Europe to several states in the U.S. Utah as become home, even though her mother will not let her forget she's a Texan. Karen attended Weber State, where she met her husband, and together raised 4 children who have made them the proud grandparents to 13 grandchildren - ranging in age from 19 to 4. So she has lots of fun activities to attend. Karen has lived next to the Little Red School House for 38 years and is excited to be part of the staff.

Kristina Rickard (teacher)



"Kristina Rickard grew up in southern California where she met her husband of 13 years. Marrying into the military lead to frequent relocations. Kristina graduated from Boise State University, Idaho in 2005 with a BA in Elementary Education and an endorsement in art. Kristina taught 3rd grade before she had her two beautiful girls, Gwenyth and Addison. Since having her girls she has been substitute teaching to keep current in the education work force. In her spare time, Kristina enjoys being outdoors and keeping active (she loves to travel and shop!!). Kristina is very excited to be a part of the Little Red School House and can’t wait to help your children grow socially, academically and to prepare them for the many fun years of school ahead of them. "

Mindy Grover (assistant)



Mindy Grover graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Development. Mindy has been busy the past 9 years with her 3 children, but is excited to join the Little Red School House this year with her youngest who will also be starting preschool. She enjoys doing art projects, reading (anything and everything), running races, and spending time with family and friends.

Karen Wilson (assistant)



Karen Wilson has been with the Little Red Schoolhouse for for 21 years. She graduated from Bonneville High School and attended Weber State College for 2 years. She taught dance for 10 years. She is married and has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her family and doing Zumba in her spare time.

Julie Coleman (Teacher)



Julie Coleman has over four decades of hand-on experience working with children. In addition to her titles of “mom” to five grown children and “grandma” to 11 wonderful grandchildren, Julie previously worked for two years at Discovery Corner preschool, spent three years as a playground supervisor and office assistant at Mt. View Elementary, as well as substitute taught on numerous occasions. When she’s not teaching or caring for grandchildren, Julie enjoys reading, baking, crafts and would love to spend more time traveling.

Kerin Stark (assistant)



Kerin Stark is so excited to go on a new adventure with Mary's Little Red School House. She has been married for 36 years and has lived in East Layton for 29 years. She has 2 sons; one of which went to Heaven in 2007. She has two grandchildren that she adores! Her and her husband were self-employed for 32 years and they are both now retired. She has played the piano and organ for her church since she was only 10 years old. She was in many organ competitions throughout Davis County in her Jr. High and High School years and played the music for many weddings. She has played the piano for the last 9 years in her church so the children can sing! She is excited to play for the Little Lambs! She loves baseball, the Oregon Coast, cruising, cross stitch, scrapbooking, flowers, making specialty cards, she cherishes her friendships with so many wonderful women, but most of all she loves her family!
